What is orthodontics?

Orthodontics is another word for teeth straightening. When your teeth are misaligned and crooked, you can have your teeth straightened by a dentist using braces.

The purely technical mechanism of action may vary slightly between different types of braces, but the principle behind orthodontics is that the braces move the teeth through the jaw by putting constant pressure on the teeth.

What is the benefit of teeth straightening?

The smile is the shortest distance between two people - and who doesn't want a healthy and straight smile? If you're looking for a comfortable and flexible solution to straighten your teeth so you can smile to the world again, you've come to the right dental clinic.

At Tandliv, we have many years of expertise in different types of orthodontic treatment, so you are always guaranteed a highly professional and straight result.

Who can get orthodontic treatment?

Age is no barrier to correct and professional teeth straightening. At Tandliv, we regularly straighten both older and younger teeth. More and more elderly patients today are having their teeth straightened as a result of crooked teeth caused by, for example, not wearing braces in their teenage years.

Whether you're 20 or 60 means nothing to us. We want to help improve your quality of life by reducing your pain with proper orthodontic treatment that gives you back your smile and joy.

When is teeth straightening necessary?

We carry out all treatments where we believe straightening is necessary. Whether it's for cosmetic or functional reasons, we always strive to give you the smile you want.

There are both cosmetic and practical reasons to get teeth straightening - typical reasons include

  • Open bite
  • Deep bite
  • Overbite/underbite
  • Crooked teeth
  • Gaps between the front teeth.

Having your teeth straightened can also have a big impact on other dental treatments. For example, it can help create space for an implant, support a denture or even make a veneer treatment easier.

What treatment methods are used to straighten teeth?

Orthodontic treatment has become a common treatment for many people, on par with teeth cleaning, root canal treatment or even a normal dental check-up. As a result, more and more people today want to straighten their crooked teeth to make them straight - but how does the treatment actually work?

At Tandliv, we offer different types of solutions to straighten your teeth. Depending on the course of treatment and how your teeth need to be straightened, we will always find the right treatment method to solve your problem and give you a beautiful, straight smile.

We offer the following treatments:

Invisalign

Invisalign braces are transparent and custom-made for your teeth. The braces are recognized worldwide and have helped more than five million people get their smile back.

The specially designed braces are replaced every two to three weeks, straightening your teeth in small increments so that you're left with a beautiful, straight set of teeth.

Treatment time varies greatly from patient to patient as it depends on the starting point of each set of teeth. As a rule of thumb, it takes approximately one year to straighten teeth with Invisalign. For the best and fastest results, we recommend that you wear your braces during waking hours, except when eating and brushing your teeth.

The advantage of using this particular type of braces is the transparent and discreet rails that don't bother your lips, cheeks or tongue. At the same time, the rails are very easy to clean, so they always look beautiful and transparent

Fixed shackle

The fixed bracket is also called train rails. Fixed braces consist of small metal brackets that are attached to the teeth with a special type of glue. The small metal loops are connected with a wire of varying thickness and hardness, always tailored to the individual set of teeth.

At first, the braces may feel angular and have a sharp surface. You may also find that your teeth are a little sore for the first few days. However, the soreness will subside over the following days and the feeling of the sharp surface will also diminish as the mucous membrane in the mouth becomes harder in the area where the braces are in contact.

A fixed bracket often gives a beautiful and precise result. However, there are several pitfalls that you need to be aware of before you decide that a fixed bracket is right for you. Even though the fixed bracket is made of solid material, the wire between the small metal locks can break, which can ultimately lead to an extended treatment time. Furthermore, you also need to get used to brushing your teeth for longer periods of time and in a more thorough manner because the braces can make daily brushing more difficult.

Facades

With veneers, we can change the shape of your teeth without it looking unnatural. Veneers are beneficial when you have special requirements for the appearance of your teeth. It also allows us to customize the porcelain material to your teeth. With veneers, you get a beautiful, elegant and natural result that matches your teeth.

At Tandliv, we have many years of experience with both plastic and porcelain veneers. Plastic veneers are the less extensive treatment of the two, which is why they also provide a less natural-looking end product. Porcelain veneers, on the other hand, give an almost identical appearance and can therefore help eliminate gaps between teeth, discoloration, cracks and minor fractures.

Together with our skilled staff, we will find the solution that best suits your needs and wishes.

A typical visit to the braces dentist - How we straighten your teeth

1. Conversation about orthodontic treatment

We start with a conversation where you tell us about your dental problem and your expectations for orthodontic treatment. We will examine your alignment, explain the different options and give you a preliminary idea of the expected cost of orthodontic treatment. The initial consultation aims to align expectations and is necessary to decide on the type of treatment you need.

If you decide to move forward, the next step is:

2. X-rays and dental impressions

During the second consultation, we take X-rays, clinical photos and impressions of your teeth, which will be used to create a treatment plan for your specific dental position and problems. We also use the images to assess the changes during treatment.

3. You get a treatment plan and a price estimate

We will now have a consultation where you will be informed about the treatment plan we have come up with. We will inform you about the pros and cons of the treatment and what you can expect from the orthodontic treatment.

You will also get the final price estimate. Then we'll decide together what's best for you - and you make the final decision to get started.

4. Orthodontic treatment starts

We put on the braces we agreed on. We always ensure a 100% pain-free, calm and safe dental treatment. Our dentists are specially trained in dental fear and therefore take extra care if you are afraid of going to the dentist.

5. Check-ups every 6 weeks

After you have your braces on, there will be check-ups approximately every 6 weeks. However, the interval varies depending on the type of treatment and where you are in the treatment process.

6. After orthodontic treatment: Stabilizing the teeth

Once the treatment is complete and your teeth are as desired, the position of your teeth will need to be supported for a shorter or longer period of time. There will always be some risk of teeth shifting again.

In most cases, we recommend that you sleep at night with a transparent plastic splint on your teeth, which we make for you based on an impression of your teeth.

The plastic splint can also be supplemented with or completely replaced by a thin metal wire that is glued to the back of the front teeth. The metal wire has the same purpose - to hold the teeth in their new, attractive position.

After a while, you can use just one of the solutions to support your teeth.

What happens after teeth straightening?

Once you've had your teeth straightened with us, just like any other set of teeth, they need to be thoroughly maintained at least twice a day. To prevent your teeth from shifting back to their pre-treatment position, you will be given a splint to wear at night. This will help keep your teeth in their new position, so you can enjoy your new, straight smile for many years to come.

If you don't want to sleep with a night guard on at night, you can alternatively have a thin and discreet metal wire attached to the back of your teeth. The wire has the same function as the night guard as it holds the teeth in place so they don't move out of position.

What does orthodontic treatment cost?

The price of teeth straightening varies greatly between the different types of treatment. We always start with you and your needs, and together we'll come up with a non-binding and free offer.

If you are a member of "danmark" you can get a subsidy for the treatment.

FAQ - tooth alignment

The cost of teeth straightening varies depending on the type of straightening you want and where you live. Traditional metal braces can cost between 10,000-20,000 DKK, while lingual braces (hidden behind the teeth) and invisalign (thin, transparent plastic braces) can cost up to 40,000 DKK or more. At Tandliv, you'll find some of the best dentist prices in Copenhagen.

The choice between Invisalign and traditional braces depends on your personal preferences and dental problems. Invisalign is hidden and more discreet but can be more expensive and not suitable for all types of dental problems. Traditional braces are cheaper and can often treat more serious dental problems but are visible and can be uncomfortable to wear.

For children, the best type of teeth straightening is often a traditional metal brace, as it is the most effective for straightening teeth and jaws. Children's braces are often smaller and less visible than adult braces, and many children's braces now also have colored or patterned elements that make them more attractive to children.
