Do you remember to floss?

If flossing is not yet part of your regular evening routine, you should start implementing it today. Flossing can be crucial for your oral health and the health of your gums and teeth.

Start flossing today

No matter how thoroughly you brush your teeth, the toothbrush will only ever reach 3 of the 5 surfaces of the tooth. The two sides between the teeth are hard to reach. This is also where the vast majority of cavities occur.

Most people have never implemented flossing as part of their daily oral hygiene routine. Therefore, many people only start flossing when they either reach adulthood or the damage is done and cavities have occurred. However, it's never too late to start flossing.

Tips and tricks for flossing

  • Find a good routine
Habits are best implemented if you find a good routine. Therefore, it's a good idea to find the time of day when you find it natural to spend 5 minutes flossing. In addition, we also recommend that you create a system so that you always start and end in the same place. That way, there's a better chance that you'll always get down between all the gaps.
  • Smooth movements
Try as far as possible not to press the floss into the gums. The floss should follow the tooth gently. A good idea is to "saw" the floss between the two teeth. This prevents the floss from suddenly passing through the gap and damaging your gums. Remember that flossing shouldn't be painful.
  • Find your preferred type and brand
Dental floss comes in different thicknesses and shapes. We therefore recommend that you find the type of floss that you feel is right for you.

Why does it bleed when flossing?

Many people experience bleeding when they floss - and there's always an explanation for this. Either it's because the gums are slightly inflamed and therefore react by bleeding when something hits them. The same thing can also happen during brushing. If this is the cause, it's actually even more important that you continue to floss so that hygiene is top notch and bacteria don't build up.

Another reason why gums bleed when flossing is that it's not done correctly. If you do it too hard, you hit your gums with such force that they damage and start to bleed
