Prevention with mouthwash
No available products have been able to demonstrate any significant or purchasable value as a supplement or partial replacement for the mechanical cleaning of teeth.
Mouthwash may briefly make your mouth feel good, but it doesn't remove the bacteria in your mouth or remove the cause of bad breath, for example.
The reduction of plaque (bacterial build-up) is usually so modest that mouth rinses have no effect on gingivitis, for example. The mouthwash rinses away quickly and does not reach the most critical areas of the teeth. For example, along the gum line.
The contents of most mouthwash products are not completely harmless either. Many mouthwashes contain alcohol as a preservative, which can irritate the oral mucosa, among other things. Naturally, products without alcohol are always preferable.
Furthermore, most mouthwash products contain antibacterial substances. The latest research shows that if you consume too many of these substances, for example through daily use of mouthwashes, you can develop resistance to antibiotics. If this happens, it can make it harder for the body to fight infections in the oral cavity and elsewhere in the body.
The exception to the above is chlorhexidine mouthwash, which is a proven effective tool to replace or supplement regular home dental care for short periods of time and for certain indications.
If you have any questions about the above, you are always welcome to contact us.
Remember... Mechanical daily thorough cleaning is always preferable....
Prevention above all!
