Subsidy for dentist
We know that a dental bill can be a major expense for many. However, taking care of your teeth is incredibly important and missing a visit to the dentist can have serious consequences. To give you an overview of the different types of subsidies available, we have compiled an overview that makes it easier for you to see which type of subsidy you can apply for.

Subsidy for dental treatment if you are over 18 years old
When you are over 18 years old, you are free to choose your dentist. You pay for the examination and treatment yourself, but you will receive a dental subsidy from the public sector for various treatments if the clinic - like us - has an agreement with the region.
The region subsidizes the following treatments if you are over 18 years old:
- Regular diagnostic examination
- Verification of diagnostic findings in diagnostic examinations
- Dental cleaning
- Extended basic diagnostic service
- Individual preventive treatment
- Control after individual preventive treatment
- Bitewings
- Tooth filling
- Root canal treatment
- Tooth extraction
- Certain surgical procedures
- Examination and treatment of gingivitis.
The amount of the subsidy depends on the type of treatment and your age. It is between 15 and 65% of the dentist's fee. For surgery and certain plastic fillings, the subsidy is a fixed amount.
Are you green, yellow or red?
You may have heard about the new categorization of patients into green, yellow and red color tracks. The division of patients into color tracks is part of the new collective agreement between the Danish Dental Association and the Regions' Wage and Tariff Board from 2015.
Reimbursement for dental care through public health insurance
Here at the clinic, we work in accordance with the agreement between the Danish Dental Association and the National Health Insurance. The vast majority of treatments are covered by this agreement. The reimbursement from the health insurance is automatically deducted and itemized on the invoice.
Reimbursement for dental care through Sygeforsikring Danmark
It can be an advantage to be a member of Sygesikring Danmark, where there is an additional opportunity to get subsidies to reduce your dental bills. You can also get an overview of our dental prices, where you can see the size of the subsidy divided into the 3 groups from Sygesikring Danmark.
To take advantage of your membership of Sygeforsikring Danmark, simply let us know at the reception and your details will be automatically forwarded.
Dental subsidy for pensioners
As a pensioner, it is also possible to get financial support for dental care through the municipality. Through section 17 of the Pension Act, you can apply for full or partial payment from the municipality. The procedure differs depending on which municipality you live in, and the subsidy depends on personal circumstances. We are happy to help with the application.
Health allowance:
You can apply for a health supplement to cover your own expenses for dental services subsidized by the public health insurance. In addition, a health supplement is granted for the pensioner's own expenses for removable dental prostheses if the municipality deems the expense to be necessary.
Personal allowance:
In addition to the health supplement, old-age pensioners can receive a personal supplement if their financial circumstances are particularly difficult. It is the municipality that assesses the pensioner's financial situation. You can apply for a personal supplement at Borgerservice.
Dental subsidy for disability pensioners
If you are a disability pensioner and receive disability pension under the rules that applied before January 1, 2003, you are subject to the same rules as state pensioners.
If you are a disability pensioner and have applied for or been granted a pension after January 1, 2003, you are instead covered by the rules that apply to subsidies for social assistance recipients.
Grants for young people and students
As a young student, money can be tight, but it's important not to skip the dentist as it can have serious consequences for your teeth in the future. Fortunately, there are subsidies available for 18 to 24 year olds, who can get a subsidy to cover all dental care costs that exceed the annual co-payment of DKK 600 (2021).
However, if you are 25 to 29 years old, you can get the same conditions if you receive self-sufficiency and repatriation benefit or transitional benefit, but not Danish supplement.
receives education assistance, but not activity allowance or maternity allowance.
We also offer a 15% student discount on free services if you present a valid student ID.

FAQ - dental subsidy
In Denmark, dental visits can be subsidized through public health insurance and possibly private insurance. The public health insurance covers part of the cost of regular dental treatments, but coverage varies depending on the patient's age and type of treatment. Adults receive a smaller subsidy than children and young people under the age of 18, who receive free dental care.
At Tandliv, we also offer a 15% discount on selected treatments for students.
Yes, at Tandliv we offer a 15% student discount on all free services for students! We want to lend a helping hand to students with fewer resources so that your next dental visit doesn't break the bank.
